Sahana Gummadapu

Sahana Gummadapu,17, a rising senior at Beachside high school is the daughter of Sridevi and Paparao Gummadapu. Sahana began her Bharatanatyam journey at the tender age of nine and she was initiated into Bharatanatyam by Smt. Madhavi Prakash. Over the years Sahana has developed a great love and passion for the art form which has pushed her to train for advanced lessons under Dr. Smt. Subashree Narayanan .In addition to Bharatanatyam, Sahana also learns Carnatic Music under Smt. Shyamala Kondapalli. Sahana has taken up many leadership roles in the Jacksonville community, one such being Link Crew leader- a leadership role that assists younger classes in high school to navigate responsibilities within the school environment and outside as well. Sahana was also recently promoted to vice president of the Young Women of color club from social relations manager as she showed promise and immense interest and interconnectedness in her culture and other cultures as well. Other than being an active member in the club, she also co-hosts a podcast with other members of the club where she shares cultural experiences as well as provides tips and tricks to the listeners about science related topics.

Sahana holds another leadership role as the secretary of a nonprofit program, USH, which aims to help kids and adults survive potential domestic abuse. She helps seek donation supplies and conducts research on this population. Sahana hopes to enter the medical field in the future. She joined the Bio Academy program at Beachside High School three years ago, allowing her to gain some exposure and experience into the medical field. She has had the opportunity of volunteering at Mayo Clinic this summer alongside Arangetram practices. Sahana is also a part of another podcast named Physics pulse which acts as an international nonprofit youth organization. She joined this podcast to showcase her interest in medicine in a creative way where she covers broad and specific physics topics and debunks physics myths.
